WHAT IS NONSUCH BREWING?
Nonsuch Brewing is located in the heart of the Exchange District nearby the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and the Manitoba Museum. This iconic taproom has been serving Winnipeg’s food and drink scene since late 2018 and stemmed from a passion for bringing craft-level quality food and drink to the Exchange.
The four founders, Mark Borowski, Matthew Sabourin, Ben Myers, and Ty Johnston each bring their own level of expertise to the business, from expertly crafted beer and food to community-oriented events, like ‘Festi Fridays’.
The name Nonsuch is inspired and derived from the legendary historic ship that established a feasible trans-Atlantic trade route from Europe to Hudson’s Bay. This was the forerunner to the establishment of the Hudson Bay company—one of Manitoba’s largest cornerstone moments in history.

4 REASONS TO GO
- EXCELLENT FOOD
Nonsuch Brewing takes their food very seriously. With a rotating menu almost weekly, there is always something new and delicious to try during every visit. I tried their fried chicken sandwich during my most recent visit and I give it 5 stars.
Nonsuch Brewing offers a lunch (12–4 PM) and dinner (4–10 PM) menu that is curated and created by expert level chefs. Nonsuch even hosts a series featuring guest chefs who bring their own expertise and flare to the menu—you’re bound to try something new every time you go.
Nonsuch also serves vegetarian options.
- VARIETY OF DRINKS
Firstly, Nonsuch offers a great selection of house-made craft beer. From tripels, to stouts, I found the variety of things on tap to be fairly balanced and well curated. There’s nothing worse than pulling up a chair to your table and seeing a menu of JUST IPAs or JUST stouts.
Not a beer drinker? Nonsuch also offers a selection of Vodka seltzers AND two lovely cocktails to play to ALL of Winnipeg’s nightlife crowd. They also serve wine!
- BEAUTIFUL TAPROOM
Nonsuch is easily the most beautiful taproom in Winnipeg. I’ve been to nearly every taproom in the city and this one takes the cake. When you first walk in, you’re greeted with beautifully warm lighting that is reinforced by gold reflective photography umbrellas that hang from the ceiling. The tables and dining furniture resemble things you’d find in a speakeasy, while the walls feature tastefully hung local art.
The interior itself is a work of art and is a reason to visit on its own!
- HOST FOR LOCAL EVENTS
Nonsuch Brewing is a great host for many local events in the city. Right now, every Friday until Festival Du Voyageur begins is “Festi Friday”. This fun Festival inspired event will take place every Friday leading up to Festival and features patio parties, french-inspired dishes, and voyageur-inspired small-batch casks.
Beer and bannock is another Nonsuch exclusive event that embodies a true Manitoban experience. Grab five of your friends for a hands-on beer bannock-making experience. Learn about the Nonsuch taproom, the connection to Louis Riel, sample some beer, then make some legendary beer bannock. BOOK YOUR TICKET HERE.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS
- ORDER “LE BURGER”
Appropriately named, “le Burger”, is Nonsuch Brewing’s delicious rendition of a smash patty burger. This simple, yet juicy mouthful features a chuck and brisket patty, melted cheddar cheese and onions, with a deliciously sweet and sour dill pickle aioli. This is seriously one good, but simple burger.
- GET THE LUNCH FOR TWO DEAL
This deal features a choice of two of three Nonsuch sandwiches, chips avec dip or onion rings, and two draught beers! In total, you’d be spending around $60 for this, but with the lunch special, you save $13! That’s basically free chips avec dip or a beer and a half if you look at it—definitely worth the deal.
The lunch deal. for two is $47 before taxes.
- REQUEST A TAPROOM TOUR
Take a tour of Nonsuch’s taproom and see how the beer is made! This is the perfect experience for work or friend groups looking to book a private event or party.
- TRY THE SMALL-BATCH CASKS
Nonsuch features a great lineup of core pours, seasonal favourites, and creative small-batch casks. I highly recommend trying something from their small batch cask lineup—like the Cognac Foeder Aged Strawberry Ale or the Festival Du Voyageur-inspired Blueberry Pancake Porter.
