WHAT IS THE PLANETARIUM?
The Manitoba Museum’s Planetarium is located in downtown Winnipeg and has been a place to learn about the stars and sky for over 50 years! Planetarium shows can be enjoyed separately from the museum’s other exhibits and are moderately priced given the subject matter. These shows can be enjoyed by people of all ages and are not just exclusive to school field trip groups.
Explore Mars, gaze at the stars, or learn about the legends of the northern sky at the Manitoba Museum Planetarium.
4 REASONS TO GO
- LEARN SOMETHING NEW
It’s never too late to learn something new and the Manitoba Museum’s Planetarium is a great venue to facilitate that. All the shows are expertly curated and led by an expert of the stars, so the learning material is fresh and delivered in an interesting way!
- AMAZING VISUALS
I couldn’t believe how gorgeous the visuals were! They are far more mesmerizing now than I remember as a kid on school field trips! Some of the shows implement animation REALLY well which adds to the immersive feel of their shows and programming.
- MODERATELY PRICED
You don’t need to tour the whole museum to watch a show at the planetarium! Tickets for individual shows are moderately priced for both adults and kids. As an adult, enjoy any of the shows for under $10!
- SHOWS ARE SHORT N’ SWEET
Most of the shows at the Planetarium come in at under an hour, which means they’re just long enough to be enjoyed without getting restless. Short show times also give you the opportunity to see multiple shows in a day or load your schedule up with other activities at the museum or nearby downtown.
WHAT’S PLAYING?
BEYOND THE SUN
This show geared toward families follows a young, animated girl named Celeste as she journeys through space observing planets and stars along the way. This show contains some really great interactive moments for both kids and parents alike.
EXPLORE
Journey to Mars and learn about the history of space travel from the very first skywatchers to the astronauts we know now. Explore offers neat insights into space exploration and poses some great questions about humanity’s future space adventures and conquests.
LEGENDS OF THE NORTHERN SKY
Learn about the very first Legends of the Northern Sky that the Indigenous cultures connected to in a fundamental way! Follow the story of Ocek, the fisher, and his animal friends as they head south to retrieve the bag of summer. This show features beautiful animation and Indigenous imagery.
MANITOBA SKIES
Tour the Manitoba sky in search of constellations, planets, and other stars that can be seen on clear nights. This program is led by planetarium staff and star experts who encourage questions and curiosities.
