WHAT IS SOUS SOL?

Behind a building, down some stairs, and hidden behind a mysterious red door in the Osborne area of Winnipeg is Sous Sol, a secret restaurant and speakeasy.

Sous Sol has proudly served cruelty-free fine-dining entrees, sides, and desserts since 2015. They also boast an incredibly large list of creative cocktails to wet your whistle.

THE COCKTAILS

With multiple sections dedicated to different flavour experiences, Sous Sol’s cocktail selection is a sight to behold. The craftsmanship is also something to behold. Each drink is carefully crafted and is distinguishable in taste and appearance amongst the diverse selection.

DELICIOUS FOOD

Sous Sol features a rotating menu of cruelty-free food with fine-dining flare. They also offer dairy/gluten-free meal options, as well as vegan plates as well. Meals are served on old china plates which reflect the ambiance of the decor within the restaurant.

THE EXPERIENCE

Sous Sol is worth going for the experience alone. Just finding the entrance to this signless “secret” establishment is a good amount of fun that is likely to strike awe or at least surprise in you and your group.

THE AMBIANCE

Sous Sol is decked from ceiling to floor with eccentric decor. Persian rugs, hanging lamps and lamp shades, and paintings mounted on the ceiling are amongst a few of the interesting decor pieces within the speakeasy. The candle-lit lighting is homey, warm, and intimate.

GREAT DATE NIGHT

Due to its small size and intimate ambiance, Sous Sol is the perfect destination for date night.

MY RECOMMENDATIONS

ORDER ENTREES AND A SIDE

I split the Duck frois gras, the bone marrow, and the potatoes dauphinoise between me and a friend and it was enough food! Keep in mind we ate before going, so maybe order 3 mains and a side or 2 mains 2 sides if you’re going with another person.

The cocktail menu at Sous Sol is massive, so I recommend trying a few different drinks amongst your group! The three drinks I recommend are: The Inigo Montoya, Blue Steel, and Fire & Fun.
